We just completed our last installation of venting product and coupled the roaster with our own design afterburner.
We performed a test roast of 2 lbs just so we could see the complete system control the bean temperature and achieve the roast we selected. It was incredible to see the system come up with a roasting curve and then adjust it and fine tune its shape before controlling the roaster to achieve what we programmed in.
This product is nothing short of amazing and we are proud to have Ambex as part of our team. Fit and finish is top notch, and after reading the patent application on Paul's design I am thoroughly impressed by the design itself, the technology, and Paul's explanation of how it all works in his patent application.

I literally have an infinite number of options to not only control the roast but to repeat the profile again and again. This literally puts me light years ahead of my nearest competition in the local market who are using (...names deleted, ed.) completely manually and who have to tie a roastmaster in front of the machine throughout the entire duration of the roast.
On the contrary, the automation for us will allow our operator (my son) to multitask and be more productive which translates to my bottom line.
All I can say is that it was worth the wait!

One year ago we were preparing to receive our Ambex Y-M2 roaster. While waiting for the roaster I had some coffee roasted by contract and sold coffee on the side of the road in Puerto Viejo, Limon Costa Rica.
The roaster arrived and we are now a full mini-factory producing organic fair trade coffee and chocolate in a small tourist town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. As far as I know we are the only coffee roaster in the Limon province of Costa Rica. We are very happy at the roasting capability of the Y-M2 and have had many compliments on our coffee and especially how well it is roasted.

Inappropriate use of an Ambex roaster.
Do not try this at home, and if you do, wait for it to cool down first.
I want to tell you I love the YM-2 roaster and I own it too. We grow our coffee very close to Hilo Hawaii on the Big Island at 1000 feet in Mountain View Hawaii. We ship it green to California. Yes it costs us more but we want it to be just roasted in California for our customers. We roast for individual customers and in small batchs. Let me bragg about the roaster!
1. It is dependable. And pre-heats rapidly.
2. It's easy to program. You can leave your profile alone or change it easily.
3. It does just short of 5 pounds and I get professional results everytime.
4. The Tech support I got from Ambex is absolute. They even faxed and mailed the information that they went over with me on the phone. So I had reference copies.
5. All the maintance is easy because it is accessable. Great design.
6. I have never had a problem with it. It has performed perfectly everytime.
7. My roaster is getting old but it is no-where near worn out.
8. It is American made!
I could go on and on... I looked at a ton of other machines they just don't match up! I would buy another Ambex roaster but this one is able to keep up. If I ever need another roaster I won't even look elsewhere. I won't waste my time. There is nothing else I could ask for from any angle.

Here is one of our new ym-5 freshly installed in our basement: we are an organization working with ex-offenders in Skagit County, WA, roasting wholesale organic coffee to churches. Just getting started. Our worldview is from the underside of society. And our operation takes place deep in our building's basement, under the street level. We are going to the roots of the problems of violence and addiction in the hearts of these men, their families, and our community. Ambex is part of this story. And we still need a lot of help after our first two weeks figuring out some basic roasts. The machine works, but there are questions, inconveniences, and needs for improvement, both in our operation and in the machine. Fitting.

I am still building profiles based on Mark and Chris's recipes. I have changed my Watlow from the original 935 to the new SD. Roasts are a pleasure now.

Rwanda Roasters is the first Specialty Coffee Roaster in Rwanda.The business opened in 2005 with an Ambex 5kg. That little puppy has been working like a dog for three years without a snag, and that's with constant electrical power outages and current fluctuations. The machine is roasting 2 sacs a day and can't keep up with demand. We are now purchasing a new 30kg Ambex this month. I must say, I was somewhat skeptical in the beginning as to whether the Ambex could hold up in these extreme conditions. I can now recommend it without reservation.

I can recommend Ambex to anyone with out reservation.Their machines have performed without flaw or breakdown through more than 8000+roast cycles. We have recently acquired a roast profiler. I really like the way I can manipulate roast profiles in a way that can't be done with machines that have too much thermal mass. The support and expertise of the Ambex staff is second to none. Keep up the good work!
